The World Cheese Awards 2021-2022, organised by the Guild of Fine Food, just took place in the city of Oviedo in the northern region of Asturias in mainland Spain at the beginning of November, 2021.

On its 33rd edition the WCA has had an increased number of entries: slightly over 4,000 cheeses from 45 different countries took part on the internationally renowned competition. Some 250 judges from different nationalities have chosen the winners in a blind tasting system.

This year Lanzarote cheeses have won a total of 7 medals produced by 4 different “Queserías” or cheesemongers, broken down as follows: 1 super gold, 1 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze.

This is the list of the island winners ordered alfabetically by “Quesería”:

A) FINCA DE UGA https://fincadeuga.com/ located on La Geria Road, Km 18 (Yaiza)
1.Silver medal for their Queso de cabra y oveja madurado “Bodega”
It’s a cured cheese produced with a mix of goat and sheep milk. It has a fruity flavour with aromas of dried fruits, slight acidity and spiciness.

2.Bronze medal for their Queso de oveja madurado “Ovejita”
It’s a cured cheese produced with sheep milk. It has aromas of dried fruits such as roasted almonds, slight acidity and no spiciness.

B) LACTOMILK CANARIAS under the commercial brand of LA D´STILA http://ladstila.com/ located in Calle Morros de San Roque, 7a in Tinajo
3. Super Gold medal for their Queso curado “7 Lagos”
It’s a cured cheese made with pasteurized goat’s milk, with a medium aroma and hints of lime and yoghurt.

4. Silver medal for their Queso tierno “Caletón” ahumado natural
It’s a semi-cured, softer, cheese made from pasteurized goat’s milk, with a mild flavour and hints of lime and yoghurt, too.

5. Bronze medal for their Queso semicurado “Jameo”
It’s a semi-cured cheese made from pasteurized goat’s milk, also with a mild flavour and hints of lime and yoghurt,

C) QUESERÍA EL FARO https://queseriaelfaro.es/ located on the road from Teguise to Mozaga, Km 4.2 (Teguise)
6. Bronze medal for their Queso de cabra semicurado untado en pimentón
Semi cured, produced from goat milk and covered in paprika with fruity and yogurt aromas. Soluble in the mouth with hints of cream. Elastic and creamy texture.

D) QUESERÍA MONTAÑA BLANCA located on Calle las Rosas, 21 in Montaña Blanca (San Bartolomé)
7. Gold medal for their Queso curado “Guatisea”
