Gastronomy Event – 2021

2nd Jornadas Gastronómicas del Atlántico Medio, 8-25 July 2021

The 2nd edition of the “Jornadas Gastronómicas del Atlántico Medio” is taking place from the 8th to the 25th of July, 2021. It’s a Gastronomy Campaign happening simultaneously in 3 of the Canary islands: Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and La Palma like it did on the first edition last year, plus Madeira, Mauritania, Senegal and Azores this year too.

In Lanzarote it’s organised by the Cabildo and Saborea Lanzarote under the very clever branding “IAM”, I am Atlántico Medio, referring to the space between the archipelagos of Cape Verde, Azores, Madeira and of course, the Canary Islands and flanked on the North-African coast by Senegal, Mauritania and Morocco and on the west, by the Iberian Peninsula with Portugal and the Northern Spanish region of Galicia.

The principle is the same than any “Ruta de la Tapa”: to showcase the local produce, both food and drink, and the skills of the local chefs. However, it can’t really be called a Tapas Tour in the traditional sense as the 15 restaurants participating in our island are presenting full dishes, two each except for one restaurant that it’s presenting only one, a total of 29 different ones.

The prices start per dish at the €5 and they go up to €21, most prices being below the €12-€15 mark. The dishes can be paired with a glass of local wine starting at €2.90 up to€7 per glass, but the average price is around €4-€5.

Some restaurants are only stating the price per bottle, which makes me suspect that they might not serve it by the glass in those cases. Prices per bottle range from €12 to €27, with the average being around €20.

The Campaign’s website mentions each restaurants’ cuisine style of each restaurant – which can come in handy if you are not familiar with that particular establishment- the participating dish(es) , each dish base product, the producer/supplier, the history of dishes creation, allergens of the dish – very handy if you happen to suffer from any food allergies!), the wine pairing suggested and both the prices of the dish and the drink. Also, at the bottom of each restaurant’s link, there is a map and full address.

FAMARA
