Guided Family Walks In Arrecife

Senderismo Lanzarote and Arrecife Town Hall have launched the programme of Guided Family Walks in Arrecife.

The guided tours are offered only in Spanish at the moment so it’s a good chance to practise your listening skills!

These are free of charge because they are subsidised by the Department of Culture of the Arrecife Townhall but required prior registration, which you can do by contacting +34 690 05 3281 or by emailing senderismolanzarote@gmail.com.

All the routes are of low difficulty, on either a Sunday or a Saturday morning from 10h till 13h (except in December, when the walk will take place between 19h to 21h).

Please find a brief description of each walk below:

16th May – “Salinas y sal”: Salt mines and salt
A walk to discover the history of the salt industry and the Castillo de San José in a fun way. At the end, there will be salt handicrafts workshop and you need to bring your own tempera paints.

13th June – “Cal y agua”: Water and Lime
Walk through the surroundings Argana Baja de la Calera and the State “maretas”. Along the route there will be games related to the characteristics of the place with special emphasis on the lime industry, the culture of water and the importance of this scarce resource on the island of Lanzarote. It includes storytelling by Isabel Cabrera.

12th September: “Jable”: Jable
Walk through the environment of El Jable of Arrecife. Along the route there will be games related to the traditional games and sports of the Canary Islands and the environmental values of the surroundings.

17th October: “Energía y viento”: Energy and wind
Walk around La Caleta and the sunken ship Telamon. Along the route there will be games related to the characteristics of the place with special emphasis on the water and electricity supply industry of Lanzarote yesterday, today and tomorrow. It includes: a drawing workshop and paper windmills handicrafts workshop led by Diana Pérez.

14th November: “Aves al vuelo”: Flying birds
Walk through the Arrecife Marina. Along the route there will be games related to the characteristics of the place with special emphasis on the fauna (birds) of the place, the history of the Castle of San Gabriel and the cistern boats. It includes: a bird watching workshop.

18th December: “Arrecife y su historia”: Arrecife and History
Walk through the Charco de San Ginés, the Church and pedestrian area. Along the route there will be games related to the characteristics of the place with special emphasis on the history of Arrecife. It includes storytelling with different stops along the route by Isabel Cabrera.
