“Darkness Into Light” is an annual 5Km walk and fundraiser event in aid of Pieta in Ireland, a charity that provides free-of-charge, accessible one-to-one counselling to people suffering from suicidal ideation, engaging in self-harm or to those bereaved by suicide.
The fundraiser walk “Darkness Into Light” started back in 2009 in Dublin and it has continued to grow year after year primarily across Ireland but worldwide now too, including our small island of Lanzarote.

In 2022, on its 5th edition, is going to be bigger than ever. Although the route was initially announced as the same than previous years ( a round route starting & finishing at the San Antonio Hotel ), the new route is starting at Lava Bar in the square across from the Fariones Hotel) at 5am on the 7th of May with musician Al Murphy serenading the walkers at the start and during the walk. The rest of the musicians -Jordan K, Conor Sloane, Mick Bennet, Ellen & Steven, Wanda Knight, Pedro Ruiz, The Jam Brothers, Jake Hanson, Colm & Diane Farrell and Concrete Jungle- will be playing from 8am to 1pm at O’Shea’s in Matagorda, where the walk ends.
O’Shea’s will open extra early where they will be offering breakfast and refreshments at a low cost. All of which funds raised along with the generous wages and tips of staff will be donated including with the sales of t-shirts. These are available for purchase at €10 before the day at either Lava Bar, Mammie’s, The Tiny Bar, The Mucky Duck, Sally Long’s, Peggy’s Snug, Decky Dillon’s and O’Shea’s. There has been such a demand that a new batch will be arriving on Monday 25th of April. If you would like one, please place your pre-order at any of the above-mentioned bars.
There will be also a huge raffle with fantastic prizes -kindly donated from amazing businesses in Lanzarote- will take place on the day.

All proceeds raised will be shared between PIETA Ireland and “El Cribo”, the mental health charity in Lanzarote.
