New Hidden Disability Badge At Spanish Airports

I have come across this information and we thought it might be useful to some of our readers.

Airports in Spain no longer recognise the UK Sunflower Lanyard as sign to communicate a hidden disability. Instead, they offer their own Invisible Disability Badge now.

It’s currently accepted at the following Spanish airports, in alphabetical order: Alicante, Barcelona (El Prat), Bilbao, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Madrid, Málaga, Menorca, Murcia, Palma de Mallorca, Reus, Sevilla, Santiago (Rosalía de Castro), Tenerife Norte, Tenerife Sur, Valencia, Vigo and Lanzarote, of course.

The badge helps airport staff easily identify passengers with hidden disabilities. It gives them access to security lanes where available, or assistance through general security. Only one badge per party is required.

It’s valid for single use on the day of travel and isn’t a fast-track or exemption from procedures.

How to request it:
a) Complete the online request form: https://tramitesyreclamaciones.aena.es/distintivo_di/#/ (you can change the language to English on the drop-down menu on the top left-hand corner of your screen)
b) Accept terms, add passenger details, flight information and submit.
c) Badge is sent by email. It can be printed or shown on a mobile.

Please note that special assistance booked via your airline, like for people with reduced mobility, is a separate thing.

Funnily enough, Mike and Julie have just applied for it on behalf of some clients. Mike says: “[The process] was easy. But not all airports are loaded, so select other. Lanzarote is listed as César Manrique. You have to do one application per flight and you can download the badge for that flight at the end.”

You can read the full terms & conditions here: https://www.aena.es/en/passengers/travellers/passengers-with-special-needs/invisible-disabilities/invisible-disabilities-badge.html.
