We attended the press opening of Lanzarote’s largest shopping centre, Open Mall in Arrecife, this week. The centre opens for business on 11th November 2022.
After a briefing from the senior management team responsible for pulling the project together, we were taken on a tour of the Planta Alta floor and had a chance to see the shops which will be open there.
Open Mall will be open 365 days a year, and features open air shopping with some major brands present, including a Zara store of 3,200 square metres, Cortefiel, Women’s Secret, Springfield, Primor, Fund Grube, Worten, Sprinter and more.
There’s also a large Hiperdino supermarket on site.
Stores new to Lanzarote include Diechmann, Teens, Kiabi, JD Sports, Intimissimi and JYSK. The panel were asked about Primark, and the reply was that they are expected to be open in the first quarter of 2023. When questioned further, our understanding is that a store of over 3,000 square metres requires an opening licence from the Canarian government and that this has now been approved.
Sould Park is an area aimed at children that covers 2,500 square metres and features a play park, virtual games and more.
There’s ample free car parking, with 980 places under the centre, and a further 95 above ground for Hiperdino shoppers. There are electric car (24 places) and bicycle chargers in the car parks, and spaces reserved for families and disabled spaces.
The centre offers free WIFI access.
The 70,000 square metre centre consists of 4 levels with 35,100 m2 of rentable space:
- Basement – Parking
- Ground floor – mainly fashion
- First floor – Supermarket, young fashion, services and restaurants
- Terraza floor – Events zone, restaurants, offices and children’s park
The opening has created 500 new jobs in Lanzarote and in the region of 500 indirect jobs and the hope is that it will be visited by locals and tourists alike. Of the 65 retail units, only 5 are still pending. The total investment in the Open Mall is in the region of 85 million Euros. Designed by AAA-Aguirre y Asociados Arquitectos who specialise in commercial centres, one of their other projects is the Siam Mall in Costa Adeje, Tenerife.
Access is easy by car, it’s also less than 500 metres from the main bus station in Arrecife, and it’s around a 700 metre stroll from the port, for cruise ship passengers.

Primark opened their doors in Lanzarote at 10:00 on 22 June 2023. Their shop is situated on the lower floor of the Open Mall Lanzarote shopping centre.

Open Mall Lanzarote is at Calle Leon y Castillo, 156 in Arrecife and is open from 1000 until 2200 every day.
