Loved by the Irish and plane spotters, Matagorda is part of Puerto del Carmen and situated on the sea front along from the airport.

Matagorda 1

Despite the small size of Matagorda there is a full range of accommodation in this area starting at the top end with the 5* Lava Beach hotel, three 4* hotels (Beatriz Playa, Sol Lanzarote and Los Jameos Playa) down to 2 key self catering apartments at Club Don Paco Castilla and all within a few minutes walk of the beach.

Matagorda 2

The trilingual private primary school is situated here too, Colegio Europeo Daos takes children from 4 month old babies up to 11 years old and they are taught in English, Spanish and German.

There are two commercial shopping centres in the area, the first is the Los Jameos Shopping Centre situated around the Los Jameos Playa hotel and overlooking the enormous Playa Los Pocillos Beach.

Matagorda 3

There is a good selection of bars and restaurants here, Irish bars, sports bars, Spanish tapas bars lots of options to sit and enjoy a drink or a meal with sea views and you can watch the comings and goings along the promenade.

The beaches are really popular in Matagorda, they are fine golden sand and the one in front of the Sol Lanzarote has sun beds for hire. There is a lifeguard hut situated midway along the front. The beach here has a blue flag.

Matagorda 4

The Matagorda centre has a good atmosphere, again there is a brilliant selection of bars and restaurants with a Jazz bar, Japanese restaurant, Chinese restaurant, Irish bars, Spar supermarket and Spanish restaurants.

Matagorda is a great place for sporting enthusiasts, the promenade is popular with runners and cyclists as well as those just taking a stroll and it connects right through Puerto del Carmen and the other way to Playa Honda and Arrecife. The beach is popular with windsurfers too.
