Lanzarote is regularly voted the best winter sun destination in Europe.
A few years ago, we reported on heavy rain and winds here in Lanzarote. Anyone following our page on Facebook will have seen images and videos of how the heavy deluge has flowed down the mountains and out to sea and they will have read how the island’s infrastructure struggled to cope. But Lanzarote is famous for it’s winter sun!
This kind of thing happens about once every five or six years!
Normally, Atlantic storms are carried well north of The Canaries and head up into Europe. In this case we caught the edge of it.
But don’t worry – Lanzarote is still the best place in Europe for winter sun!
That’s because we aren’t really in Europe at all – we’re only 64 nautical miles from the Saharan coast of Africa and we’re as far south of Madrid as that city is from London!
Our typical winter weather is plenty of sunshine, daytime temperatures from 22 to 25 degrees, falling to around 15 to 17 at night. Contrast that with other holiday destinations:
- Cyprus has a winter high of 16 to 18 degrees
- Mallorca 15 to 17 degrees
- Marbella 14 to 16 degrees
The Ocean temperature here varies much less than anywhere else in Europe, meaning we are genuinely an all year round island for sunbathing and swimming. These are from Christmas day!
So relax! The occasional storms pass and normal Lanzarote service of winter sun is resumed. If you’re ready to book your next dose of winter sun, we’d love to help you: Lanzarote Holiday Offers.
