As part of our walk along the full length of the Paseo Maritimo in Playa Blanca, we decided to stop for a bite at The Irish Anvil, which is right on the promenade.
We settled at a table in the sunshine, and from there, The Irish Anvil looks pretty much like any bar on the island, but I was to discover later that it’s a bit special inside!
The menu is pretty limited if I’m honest, with a selection of burgers, wraps, sandwiches and a few main courses. Jules selected a Mexican Chicken Wrap, and I went with The Anvil Burger. If the menu is limited, the quality isn’t! The wrap was presented superbly, with good chunks of tasty chicken breast cooked in an interesting spicy marinade. The burger was fabulous – really good quality ground beef, with bacon, cheese and sauce, served with perfectly cooked chips. Both portions were large and good value for money.
Being an Irish bar, we of course elected to wash our meals down with Guinness, which was fresh, tasty and cold. The service was also very good, with just the right amount of attention from everyone.
Going inside, I was amazed. The bar area is beautiful and really well laid out. There’s plenty of room, a sensible central bar, and one corner has small screens for horse racing enthusiasts, and there are several large screens for sports and music fans. The interior is fully air conditioned and spotlessly clean. The toilets are an absolute joy, and something so many bars in Lanzarote get wrong. There are also two internet booths and free wifi for customers, just ask for the code.
I was deeply impressed by the whole experience. We stopped because we reached a point where we simply needed to eat, and quite frankly my expectations were low. But The Irish Anvil did themselves proud, and I would be happy to recommend the place to all readers. For more information on The Irish Anvil visit their website.
