The Teleclub at Tahiche has been taken over by a new, young team, and they have transformed the place from an old fashioned, traditional sociedad, into a comfortable and spacious bar / restaurant. Above all, as you’ll see below, they’re really taking the food seriously, and it is superb!
We visited with good friends who live in Tahiche for a mid week lunch.
Josué and Cristian have done a super job with their makeover – they’ve put in new decorations, a jazzy neon sign, and above all, they’ve given the place a really deep clean. It now really looks the part. The tables have been painted Lanzarote Green, and the outside space on the terrace looks like a super place for watching the sun set with a cocktail.
The four of us decided to have a range of dishes to share. We went for.
Gambas al ajillo.
I was stunned at this dish, and always use it as a benchmark. The oil was lovely and clear, it arrived at the table sizzling, and it has a real kick of spicy paprika. We ordered more bread to mop up the oil!
Cazuela de gambas, pulpo y champinones
This used the same recipe as the gambas, but added octopus and mushrooms, both of which tasted super fresh.
Mixed Croquetas
We had a couple of plates of these, some with chicken and others with mushroom. They were tasty and hot, but I felt they could have done with more seasoning and more of the delicious aioli on the side.
Queso asado
The grilled cheese was served melting and each of the three pieces had a different topping – two with mojo (red and green) and the other with fig jam. I normally find this goat’s cheese dish a little bland, but they’ve used a decently strong cheese, and it was wonderful.
Sardinas Fritas
I adored these! Lovely, fresh sardines, simple fried – full of flavour! I could have eaten a whole portion myself.
The service was excellent, especially considering they’ve only just opened.
We thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and I can see us becoming regulars at Teleclub Tahiche.
Our total bill, with a tip, was 90 €, so 22.50 € a head. We probably had one dish too many, and we enjoyed four beers and a couple of glasses of wine. You could certainly enjoy a decent lunch there for well under 20 € per person.
Teleclub Tahiche is right in the centre of town, in front of the main plaza on Calle Benito Pérez Galdós.
