Lanzarote Restaurant Review – Le Petit Jardin, Playa Blanca

There aren’t that many restaurants specialising in French cuisine on the island, but Le Petit Jardin, located in Marina Rubicon, has joined that small group and we decided to check it out for lunch.

Le Petit Jardin is at the far, southern, end of the marina, next door to Mumbai Masala. Both restaurants have the same owner, but different chefs and staff.

We visited on a particularly hot day, and there’s a fountain outside, which, together with ceiling fans, brings the temperature down nicely in the outside seating area. The restaurant is also spacious and air conditioned inside. The decor is done beautifully, and the place was spotlessly clean.

A snack menu is offered between 12:00 and 18:00, with the main menu available at all times. We chose from it, but let’s talk first about the main menu, which is extensive and had my mouth watering! Starters include a cheese fondue, steak tartare, bouillabaisse, French onion soup and king prawns cooked in Grand Marnier. Mains include duck breast in honey, filet Rossini, stuffed chicken breast, soul meunière and lobster. We plan to return, because there are so many dishes on the menu we’d like to try!

But for this lunch, as mentioned, we chose from the snack menu. Julie went for a lobster roll, and I chose a Club Rubicon sandwich, and we shared some truffle parmesan fries.

The lobster roll was spectacular – served on brioche bread, with the lobster and shrimp chopped and served in a delicious mayonnaise, with a side of avocado and tomato. The club sandwich consisted of chicken breast, a fried egg, tomatoes and bacon. It was fine and a very healthy portion, but I felt it was a little lacking in flavour and seasoning. It was served with a small portion of fries. The truffle parmesan fries we ordered as a side were amazing, perhaps twice or three times cooked, and liberally dusted with truffles and proper Parmesan.

The service was good, but we’d managed to time our arrival with a shift change, so we started the meal with one team of servers and finished it with another.

Our total bill came to 26 € per head, including a glass of wine, a beer and water.

Le Petit Jardin is a great addition to the restaurants in the marina, and it’s so refreshing to see some different menu options here on the island. We’re looking forward to our next visit.

Let Petit Jardin is in Marina Rubicon, in Calle Borrego 2, and their phone number is 602 64 07 19, they are open from 12:00 until 23:00 every day except Sunday.
