Interview with Massimiliano Patini

I met Massimiliano Patini and his (now) wife Viviana Basetti, who incidentally is a very talented jewellery maker, even before I moved to Lanzarote when I was on holiday here. Why it’s taken me this long to interview him for Lanzarote information, I cannot explain. There are very talented guitar players in the island and, in my humble opinion, he is one of the best. Massimiliano has some exciting news to share, so it seemed appropriate to take this opportunity to chat to him.

Do you have a stage name?

Nothing special… just Max Patini.

Where are you from originally, Max?

I’m from Rome, Italy.

How long have you lived in Lanzarote?

My first time in the island was in 2006 for a few months. I came for the second time in 2010 and I haven’t left yet.

What brought you here in the first place?

I just had an offer about play in a place called Charlie’s Bar in Centro Atlántico in Puerto del Carmen for 40 days.

Wow. you must like it if you are still here. What do you like about the island?

Everything outside the resorts… it’s wild and beautiful.

What are your favourite places then?

Playa Papagayo, Playa Chica and the Timanfaya Park.

They are wonderful places indeed. Let’s get back to business. What do you play?

I play guitar and I sing too.

Who are your idols, musically speaking?

Jeff Beck it’s my guitar hero and Seal it’s my favourite singer.

How would you describe your gigs and your music for someone who’s never heard you before?

My gigs are full of energy and a music journey through the best music ever. And most importantly, it’s lots of fun!

Are you doing online gigs at the moment?

Because of the Pandemic, I don’t have any regular gigs at moment. I like to do live streaming gigs from my Facebook page.

Do you have any special projects coming up?

Yes, the Pandemic brought everybody to a big dark place but, but at the same time it’s been a big opportunity to think in a different way.

Very true. So, what have you have you been doing?

I started to do my real job, music producer. I just launched my own label: MAMA Records.

Wow, congratulations! How did the project start?

As I said before, it was necessary to change the point of view about our jobs and life in general. So together with two crazy guys, Christian Schio and Marco Caboni, we started this adventure.

So what’s in store for MAMA Records now that it is launched?

Well, the first artist we are producing, a very talented lady called Chiara Rossi, has her first single “Gravedad” is out on the radios already and it’s going well. In a couple of months, the full album will be out. We are working hard to make famous others artists’ too.

That sounds fun! Anyone else that has signed with you that you can tell us about?

Our artist team it’s going bigger and bigger. We have lots of work to do.

So your lips are sealed.

Indeed!

Fair enough, we’ll have to stay tuned to find out more. On that note, no pun intended, how can our readers keep up to date with your gigs and projects?

You can find me on Facebook as Massimiliano Patini (https://www.facebook.com/massimiliano.patini).

My hobby to cook… and eat what I have cooked.
