Last year the first edition of the “Great Walk for Parkinson’s” took place. It’s a five-leg nature trail (GR-131) crossing Lanzarote from north to south, in aid of Living With Parkinson’s in Lanzarote. The route spans a total of 77km and the challenge is to walk the route over five consecutive Sundays.
You can see a wonderful video of last year’s walk here: Great Walk for Parkinson’s.
The 2025 edition is starting on the 16th of February until the 16th of March as follows:
Sunday 16th February – Órzola > Haría 14km (approx. 3hrs)
Sunday 23rd February – Haría > Teguise 13km (approx. 2.5hrs)
Sunday 2nd March – Teguise > San Bartolomé 9.5km (approx. 2hrs)
Sunday 9th March – San Bartolomé > Yaiza 23km (approx. 5hrs)
Sunday 16th March – Yaiza > Playa Blanca 17.5km (approx. 3.5hrs)
You can join on one or more (or all!) of the five legs, to suit your fitness levels and availability, so no excuses there!
Entry fee is €25, regardless of how many legs you decide to take part on and it includes a promotional t-shirt. In addition, you may wish to raise further funds by encouraging friends and family to sponsor your efforts. Shared transport to the start / finish points will be organised.

About the charity
Living with Parkinson’s Lanzarote is a recently formed charity supporting families living with Parkinson’s and other neurological conditions in the island. Janet Harper, a well-loved long-term resident in Lanzarote, is its Founder and President. When Janet’s own dad John was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, his family was dismayed to discover not only the lack of specialist care for the condition on the island but a total lack of a support for the families of those affected. The charity, a first of its kind on Lanzarote and set up as John’s legacy, has a mission to provide: respite assistance, help and advice from experts, equipment for the home and counselling for family members – all the things John and his family so badly needed during his illness.
