Clampdown On Unlicensed Airport Pickups

Unlicensed pickups

Authorities are clamping down once again on unlicensed airport pickups. The targets are the people who make an income by charging for collections from and drop off to the airport, who:

  • Don’t have the necessary permits
  • Don’t have the correct insurance policy to cover everyone in the event of an accident
  • Don’t have their vehicle checked to public service standards
  • Often do not declare and pay tax on the income earned

There are a number of people offering a service who are effectively taking business away from licensed taxi drivers and transfer companies who do meet all the conditions required.

If you’re not hiring a car from the airport, then use the taxi service or one of the approved transfer companies on the island – you don’t want the start off your holiday ruined by having to sit in the car while the driver argues with the police, or worse still, being involved in an accident and unable to get any cover for injury or damage to your property.
