Raíces Atlánticas, or Atlantic Roots, is the new Festival of Traditions that celebrates Lanzarote and La Graciosa’s identity. It will take place in several locations in Arrecife, such as Parque José Ramírez Cerdá, Plaza de Las Palmas, La Recova, Casa de Los Arroyo and Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz, between the 13th and the 16th of May, 2026.
Under the slogan “Come and experience who we are and what brings us together” it offers a comprehensive programme that celebrates the Canary Islands’ roots and their historical, cultural and human connection with the Atlantic.

The event offers a journey through the traditions, crafts, music, cuisine, popular culture and shared history of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, whilst also celebrating the cultural richness of those who make up the island’s society today.
The fair offers a programme designed for people of all ages, featuring activities centred on crafts, traditional and folk music, gastronomy, cultural expressions with Atlantic roots, trades, workshops, exhibitions and participatory events. The aim is to create a space for social interaction where tradition engages with the multicultural reality of modern-day Lanzarote.

The festival will kick off on Wednesday 13th of May with the opening ceremony and the performance “Arife. Cantos de Tierra” at 8:00pm in Plaza de Las Palmas.
On Thursday 14th of May, the programme will include workshops linked to traditional trades, such as the traditional pottery workshop and the lapa-playing workshop, as well as traditional Canarian games, heritage walks around Arrecife, oral tradition gatherings, and a youth and senior wrestling match between the Tao Wrestling Club and the Tías Wrestling Club.
The day will also feature the musical performance “De Portonao a La Graciosa”, with the participation of Fabiola Socas, Antonio Jorge Toledo, José Manuel Toledo, Raquel Álvarez and Juan Carlos Pérez, and will conclude with a performance by Acatife, entitled “Identidad” (Identity).
On Friday 15th of May the fair will continue with participatory activities such as the workshop “El hilo que cruza el Atlántico” (The Thread that Crosses the Atlantic), a workshop on traditional cheese-making, further sessions of traditional games, heritage walks and events celebrating oral tradition like “Una noche de leyenda (A Night of Legends).
The programme will also feature cultural expressions with Atlantic and Latin American roots, including “Soy Colombia” (I am Colombia), presented by La Diosa del Sabor and Acciones Unidas, as well as exhibitions and workshops on the Juego de la Lata. Music will play a prominent role with a performance by the Folkloric Association Coros y Danzas de Arrecife and a concert by Taburiente, who will bring their show “50 años y +”(50 years and +).
On Saturday 16th of May, the programme will kick off in the morning with family-friendly and educational activities, such as the “Colgante Tifinagh” (Tifinagh Pendant) workshop, organised by the Juan Brito Foundation, and a tribute to Félix Hormiga’s work for children and young people in the event “Una isla, muchos cuentos” (One Island, Many Storie)”, featuring Atchen Pounapal, Lola Suárez, Marcos Hormiga, Elsa López and Ernesto Rodríguez Abad, with music by Ayoze Rodríguez and Alexis Lemes.
The day will also feature exhibitions of shepherd’s leap, the stick game and the tin can game, performances by parrandas, rosette-making workshops, heritage walks, oral tradition with “Romances del Atlántico”, music from the Tías Municipal School of Music, and stage performances such as “Entre Isas y Mañas” (Between Isas and Mañas), featuring Los Campesinos, Ignacio Romero and Lucha Canaria. The festival will close its musical programme with a performance by Bohemia Lanzarote.
In addition to the daily activities, Raíces Atlánticas will feature several permanent areas throughout the festival. These include:
-the Gastronomic Zone, located in Parque José Ramírez Cerdá
-the “Sabores del Puerto” (Flavours of the Harbour) route, where local bars and restaurants will offer tapas made with locally sourced produce. The programme is rounded off by the exhibition “Sonidos Vagabundos” (Wandering Sounds), which will be on display at the Casa de la Cultura Agustín de la Hoz from the 13th of May to the 13th of June, 2026, and by “Portonao Escénico” (Scenic Portonao), an audiovisual screening taking place in Plaza de Las Palmas from the 13th to the 16th of May, 2026.
