I met Max even before I moved to the island, on one of my last holidays before I came to live to Lanzarote while he was doing a substitution on the resident band of the infamous and regrettably long gone Charlie’s Bar in Centro Atlántico in Puerto del Carmen. It’s only taken me 15 years to get around to interview him!
Hi Max, I hope you had a lovely time over Christmas. Shall we introduce you to our readers?
Tell us, where are you originally from?
I am from Rome, Italy
Max doesn’t sound very Italian. Surely, it’s short for something. What is your full name?
Massimiliano Patini
Ah, I knew it! I guess Max it’s easier for English speaking people to remember. How long have you been living in Lanzarote?
I have lived here 15 years now.
That’s true! We did become residents of the island around the same time. What brought you here initially?
To play music with a friend.
Oh yeah, I remember. Charlie’s Bar. Those were some nights! What made you stay?
Majorly, the opportunity to work with music.
I’m sure the fact that the location was in the beautiful island of Lanzarote also help. What do you like about the island?
Indeed, that was a plus. In fact, Lanzarote’s stunning nature is my favourite thing.
And what do you like the least?
I don’t like anything that doesn’t respect this nature.
Unsurprisingly. And do you have favorite place on the island?
If I have to choose one, I’d choose Calentón Blanco. There is something special about that spot.
Good choice! It’s certainly a gorgeous beach. What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to relax, enjoy excursions and go out for a good steak.
Of course, being Italian food had to feature at some point! Going back to your profession: have you always been involved in music?
I’ve always divided my time between music and normal jobs.
Ah, ok. And how did you get started?
At the tender age of 13, by stealing my brother’s guitar when he went to work.
Ah, so music runs in the family. How has your musical career evolved since then?
I’ve worked for many artists in Italy. As a guitarist, composer, arranger.
I’ve done soundtracks for movies and I’ve recorded a few albums with my bands and
as a solo artist.
Wow, that sounds interesting. What inspires you to write your songs?
Everything. Anything that catches my attention.
You’ll never run out of inspiration then. Where can people see you play?
Currently I play and sing most nights at Playa Blanca at the Harp Bar, Bikers and Barneys Bar.
Do you have any projects in the works for the near future?
I do, indeed, in the very near future: the release of my blues album on the 5th of January, 2026. It’s called “Bak to the Roots”.

That sounds exciting, thanks for telling us. How can people follow your new adventures?

To bring this to a conclusion, tell us something about yourself that nobody knows (yet), even your regular followers?
I’m a very good cook.
Definitely a man of many talents. Anything else you’d like to say to our readers?
I’ll be waiting for you on the 5th of January, 2026 at 20:30h at Barneys Bar in Playa Blanca for the presentation of my album. It’s going to be a night to remember!
Thank you very much for your time, Max. And the best of luck with the launch of your latest album.
