Two Hikers Rescued In Haria

Two hikers were rescued in separate incidents in Haria on Wednesday. In the first, a man called for help when he got tired climbing up the Graciosa walk from the beach at the bottom of the risco. Rescue teams took him back down and arrange for a boat to pick him up. In the other, a lone female walker became disoriented in the Guinate area when darkness fell, and she had to call for help.

Biosfera Christmas Lights Party

The Christmas lights at the Biosfera Shopping Centre in Puerto del Carmen will be switched on, on the 14th December this year.

32 Degrees In November!

The temperature on the island reached 32 degrees on Tuesday this week, and they didn’t fall below 20 degrees overnight. Temperatures are expected to drop as the week goes on, reaching normal autumn temperatures on the mid 20’s.

Over 130,000 Cruise Ships Visitors In November

Around 130,000 visitors will arrive into Arrecife this month on a total of 64 cruise ship stopovers that are planned for Lanzarote.

Amphibious Chairs In Arrieta

Playa La Garita in Arrieta has had two amphibious chairs installed to provide bathing for people with limited or no mobility. The chairs will be operated by members of the lifeguard team at the beach.

Luxury Cruise Ship In Port

Ritz Carlton’s Luminara was in Arrecife on Monday this week. The luxury cruise ship carries 400 passengers, all in suites, and is on a 9 day cruise which started in Barcelona and stopped in Gibraltar on the way to Lanzarote. The ship is renowned for being adorned by priceless works of art.

More Hot Weather Expected

November started unusually warm for the island, with temperatures in the high 20’s, and AEMET is forecasting it will get hotter as the week progresses, moving into the low 30’s by Tuesday. The highest temperatures will be inland, and winds will remain very light.

Two Drowned In Famara

A 37 year old Romanian man drowned in Famara over the weekend. He was in group of three – the others were a German man and an Indian man. They were all swimming together and were overcome by waves and current. The German man, 49, was able to get out of the water himself and raise the alarm. Emergency services recovered the Romanian man, but were unable to revive him, but the Indian man, 28, could not be found, and the search continued for him until Tuesday evening when his body was washed ashore. The three were bathing at El Papelillo, the far end of the beach at Famara. The initial event occurred at 4PM on Sunday and Agents of the Local Police Guardia Civil, Emerlan, firefighters, rescue jet skis and two helicopters were mobilised to the area.

Children’s Passport For Manrique’s Jewels

Lanzarote’s official tourists centres will be giving out passports to children over the next few months. The pasports will allow children to collect stickers from each of the Manrique designed tourist attractions on the island, and add them to their passports.
