Which Beaches In Lanzarote?

Lanzarote is blessed with more than 100 beaches and most of them are of the golden sand variety.

But they vary so much – we have beaches where you’ll be totally alone, some where the surf is amazing, and others where kids can paddle safely.

So to answer the question, you need to think about what you want from your visit. Here are some of our favourites.

Typical Holiday Beaches

These are the ones where you’ll find sun beds, parasols, pedaloes, jet skis and loads of people! You’ll find these beaches typically in the resort areas.

They include:

  • Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen
  • Playa Las Cucharas in Costa Teguise
  • Playa Dorada in Playa Blanca

But you’ll also find smaller, less populated beaches in the resorts, like

  • Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen
  • Papagayo in Playa Blanca – actually 5 beaches in one!
  • Playa Jablillo in Costa Teguise
  • Playa Flamingo in Playa Blanca
  • Not forgetting Playa del Reducto in Arrecife

Snorkeling

For decent snorkeling you need a beach where the water doesn’t get too deep close to shore, great visibility, not many waves and some rocks or a reef. We’ve got several here in lanzarote

  • Playa La Garita in Arrieta
  • Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen
  • Playa Flamingo in Playa Blanca
  • Playa Jabillo in Costa Teguise

Surfing and Wind Surfing

Famara is the King of the surf beaches here and is known as the Hawaii of Europe. There’s decent surf there almost every day of the year, and kite surfers love it too.

For windsurfers, Costa Teguise is perfect, providing a constant steady wind, and a cracking reef break not sure from the shore at Playa Las Cucharas.

Hidden Beaches

If you want to visit beaches where you won’t find many people, try Caleton Blanco, between Punta Mujeres and Orzola, the “secret” beach you come to, if you take the left turn onto the track as you go into Orzola, or the amazing Playa Las Conchas on the far side of La Graciosa.

Naturist Beaches

There are several beaches in Lanzarote where it’s acceptable to get your kit off:

  • The smallest beach at Papagayo
  • The beach that runs along the airport runway between Matagorda and Playa Honda
  • The furthest parts of Famara beach, away from the town
  • Charco del Palo – not strictly a beach, but there is bathing in a natural sea pool, and sandy sections where you can sunbathe. The whole village is naturist.
