Walk, Timanfaya National Park

Walk, Timanfaya National Park – The Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Medio Rural y Marino have launched a new website Red de Parques Nacionales, where you can book two free guided walks online through the Timanfaya National Park in Lanzarote.

Coastal Route

Unfortunately there is normally only one walk per language per month for this route, places are released with a maximum of 2 months in advance so please check the calendar for future dates.

The Ruta del Litoral is shown in yellow on the map, this patch is the only coastal footpath within a National Park in the Canary Islands. The eruptions in XVIII and XIX formed a new coastline here and walkers will be able to discover how life has evolved in this new landscape.

Termesana Route

There are normally lots of dates available for this shorter walk.

The Ruta de Termesana is shown in pink on the map. This walk takes you up close to a volcano and is designed to show you how the island’s residents adapted their lifestyle after the 1730 – 1736 eruptions.

Time: 3 hours

Maximum group: 8 people

To Book

You must select a tour with a guide in a language that you speak, maximum group size is 7-8 people. Change the website to English on the top right.

Select which walk you would like to book, on the green menu bar above the walk description is the option for reservas / bookings, click this, the calendar has red or green boxes, green is available, click the date and it will come up with the number of places available, click selecionnar / select and enter the number of places in the box. You will then be given a permiso / permit number and contraseña / password with confirmation of your place. NB. You must also telephone 48 hours in advance of the walk (928 118 042) to confirm your place.

Terms & Conditions

Meet at the Mancha Blanca Visitor Centre 15 minutes before the walk starts.

The tours available for people over 16 years old, note 16 & 17 year olds must be accompanied by an adult.

It is compulsory to wear walking boots and bring drinks.

It is recommended to wear sun protection and a hat, bring food and wear comfortable clothes.

You must take ID and proof of your permit number.

Walks may be cancelled if a weather alert of yellow, orange or red alert.

Failure to comply with the compulsory requirements may result in the cancelation of your reservation.

You can download the PDF Leaflet below which shows the different ways to explore the Timanfaya National Park, most visit the Montañas del Fuego / Mountains of Fire centre where you can take the 14km bus tour through the “Route of the Volcanoes”, there is also a Echadero de los Camellos / camel station where you can take a camel train into the volcanoes.
