Gullivers Tapas bar has been on my list of places to visit for a long time, we finally made it over to Tinajo lunch
Gullivers Cerveceria, Tapas bar is owned by José and Maribel, a lovely couple who give a warm welcome to returning friends as well as new visitors. Situated on the main road in Tinajo, they are easy to find with plenty of parking in the street. Their terrace is a popular place to sit so if there’s a few of you visiting, best to call and reserve a spot, there’s plenty of room inside and a couple of wooden picnic tables outside.
Maribel brought out a tapa of a fresh tortilla for us to taste whilst deciding on the menu, I had to try the chorizo cooked in honey rum and Miguel loves black pudding, so selected the morcilla, plus a racion of papas bravas and papas Gullivers. Maribel also brought a taster of marinated pork and some slices of fresh goats cheese to the table whilst our order was being prepared.
The morcilla (black pudding) was delicious, served minced in a dish sprinkled with pine nuts and toast, it tasted sweet and melted in the mouth. The honey rum chorizo was superb, the sausage was spicy, sweet and blackened on the bottom, definitely one to repeat. Papas bravas we love, these are small fried wedges of potato with a spicy red sauce liberally applied over the top. The papas Gullivers was the same style of potato served with egg, ham and chorizo.
We were dining with friends, one tried the morena (moray eel), served in thin slices and crispy it was the best way we’ve seen this local delicacy served but still not a favourite on our tapas list. The fresh bread from Tinajo was delicious, especially dipped in alioli (garlic mayonnaise).
To finish Maribel brought us each a slice of gofio with cactus jam, and José left a selection of bottles on the table for a chupito or two of vodka caramel, ron miel, pacharan and licor de hierbas. Apparently there’s also an interesting image in the gents toilets!

Update: Sadly, José has passed away since this review was written, but the restaurant continues to provide excellent tapas and a warm welcome.
