Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca – The Resort

Playa Blanca was just a small fishing village with beautiful beaches before being developed into Lanzarote’s third holiday destination.

The area of Playa Blanca is situated on the southern tip of the island and has been developed as the “up market” resort of the island, with villas on large plots of land and five star hotels. There is a fabulous promenade stretching along the coastline connecting Marina Rubicon right down to the lighthouse.

Here’s some video we shot in the resort:

The exclusive Marina Rubicón in Playa Blanca offers high class shops and restaurants with a great vibe and a selection of sports facilities.

The old traditional port of Playa Blanca has ferries that run to the island of Fuerteventura several times a day, you can choose from the high speed cat or traditional car ferry, Corralejo is walkable from the port so this makes a great day out.

Playa Blanca has the best selection of beaches on the island, within the resort you have:

Playa Dorada Beach

This is between the centre and the Marina Rubicon port, it’s a popular beach with water sports available for hire.
Dimensions: 300m long & 10m deep
Sand: fine white
Sea: calm

Flamingo Beach

This is located past the old harbour towards the lighthouse.
Dimensions: 200m long & 20m deep
Sand: fine white
Sea: calm

Papagayo Beaches

Just outside the resort there is the national reserve area of Papagayo with fantastic beaches, there are water taxis from the resort or you can access them by car along the dirt tracks, you will need to pay €3 entry at the toll booth. The beaches are all golden sand with turquoise water and views over to the island of Lobos and Fuerteventura. There aren’t facilities so we recommend that you take food and drink with you, from left to right there are 8 beaches:

Playa Puerto Muelas 130m x 10m
Playa Caleta del Congrio 130m x 10m
Playa Papagayo 120m x 15m
Playa la Cera 105m x 30m
Playa la Cruz 320m x 60m
Caleton del San Marcial 35m x 6m
Caleton del Cobre 40m x 3m
Playa Mujeres 395m x 85m
Playa Las Coloradas 410m x 7m

There are a number of boat excursions that anchor off Playa Mujeres and Las Coloradas as they are the larger beaches. NB. Papagayo is also popular with naturists.

There are lots of ways to explore Playa Blanca – on foot, hire a bike, take a Segway electronic wheelie tour, boat taxi, hire electric bikes and there is a circular bus route around the resort.

There is a weekly market at Marina Rubicon on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9am to 2pm.

Playa Blanca is definitely the place to watch the sun setting, it’s magnificent!
