Los Hervideros

Los Hervideros

Currently the road from the salt pans to Los Hervideros is closed due to a sink hole, but you can still access it from the El Golfo side. We’ll update here when the road re-opens.

I love a visit to Los Hervideros situated along the coast from El Golfo.

This stretch of Lanzarote coastline is stunning and anyone exploring Lanzarote by car or bike shouldn’t miss this section of road (LZ-703) from the Salinas de Janubio to El Golfo. The tarmac cuts a smooth path through the inhospitable lava flow, it’s no wonder car commercials have been filmed here, the road curves around the coastline framed by the deep blue sky, crashing waves and lava landscape.

Los Hervideros is situated mid way along the road, ignore the regular lay by’s unless you want to stop and admire the view, there is a good sized car park for this natural attraction.

The name Los Hervideros translates to the “boiling pots” and a visit here is worth timing with a high tide or full moon to experience the full power of the waves crashing into the rocky cliffs. Look at the size of the people in these photos, you are left feeling dwarfed by the immense power of nature. In fact, the roughest ocean days are a fabulous time to visit Los Hervideros.

There are winding footpaths throughout the cliff top here with lots of peep holes down to the sea below.

Balconies have been built into the rock face which make great viewing platforms and the opportunity for a momento photograph.

Keep and eye out in the area for Olivine, which is a naturally occurring gemstone, which you can find in the area – look for the green jewels.

Los Hervideros is an amazing place, families with small children should take caution and keep them close by. Combine a trip to Los Hervideros with a visit to El Golfo, visit the green lagoon, Charco de Los Clicos and have a typical Canarian lunch at one of the village restaurants.

Visit Los Hervideros as part of the Lanzarote Grand Tour.
