Lanzarote’s patron saint is the Virgen de los Dolores, Nuestra Señora de los Volcanes and the 15th September of each year is a fiesta day to celebrate.

A pilgrimage is held on the closest Saturday to the 15th of each September, on this day thousands of residents will dress in traditional costume and walk to the village of Mancha Blanca, where the ermita de Los Dolores church is situated. Some walk from their homes, others congregate at the Monumento al Campesino to walk approximately 9km to the church.

In 2017, the pilgrimage will be held on Saturday 16th September.

The romeria is leaving San Bartolomé at 12:00 from the plaza del Ayuntamiento travelling along calle Calderetas to La Florida, passing through El Islote, El Peñón, Mancha Blanca & Tinajo.

The romeria is leaving Tinajo at 18:00 and the offerings to the virgin will commence at 19:00.

The LZ-30 (Teguise-Uga) road from the roundabout with the LZ-2 until the intersection with the LZ-503 road will be closed to traffic from 09:00 until 13:00.

There is a folklore concert on Friday 15th September 2017 at 21:30, which is free entry and being televised by Televisión Canaria. La Agrupación Folclórica Dunas de Corralejo (Fuerteventura), la Agrupación Folclórica Hautacuperche (La Gomera), la Agrupación Folclórica Acorán (Tenerife), and la Agrupación Folclórica La Peña (Lanzarote) will be performing.

Arrecife – Tinajo (Estación de Guaguas – Cruce de San Bartolomé – Monumento del Campesino – Mancha Blanca) / From 00:30 until 04:30 every 30 minutes.
Tinajo – Arrecife (Mancha Blanca – Cruce de San Bartolomé – Estación de Guaguas) / From 00:30 until 05:00 every 30 minutes.

A large traditional craft fair (Feria Artesanía) is also held during the Fiestas de Los Dolores, this attracts artisans from across the archipelago as well as Lanzarote.

In 2017, XXIX La Fería Artesanía de Lanzarote will be held from Thursday 7th to Sunday 10th September.
