There is a new trend becoming more and more popular, at least in Puerto del Carmen: the afternoon gigs. Yes live music in the afternoons!

A few of them have been going on for years, like the infamous “Jazz Session” on Sundays (check below for some exciting news!) but in the last few months, there are more and more sessions popping up all over this resort. We have put together a list for you:

Weekly:

Tuesdays:

Mick Garry plays at the White Lion on Avenida de Las Playas from 7pm to 10pm.

Wednesdays:

Wednesdays:

Mick Garry plays at Billy’s Bar at Luz y Mar Apartments on Calle Juan Carlos from 2pm to 6pm. If you atend to his gig, you can make use of the pool!

Thursdays:

Ricky Lee performs at Highlander Too (on Montaña Tropical) from 4pm to 6pm.

Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays

From 11am to 6pm at Café La Ola on the Avenida de las Playas (next to the Casino).
Their music goes from the 60s to current music for all audiences. They recommend you go from 3pm onwards which is the locals lunch time.
It looks like it used to be outside, now inside.

Sundays:

Sunday seem to be the most popular day for afternoon gigs and you get a good selection of choices:

* On the 30th of May, 2019 the Weafer family announced on their The Crafty Cow Facecebook page that they had decided to close the doors of this popular bar located in Montaña Tropical after eleven years running it. And with this, the oldest and probably the best known afternoon gig of them all -what everybody knew as the Sunday afternoon’s “Jazz Session”- has moved venue to the new Restaurant Sassi’s Bar and Bistro in the Old Town on Calle Roque Nublo, 22 with music starting at 3pm until 5pm.

* “Sax on the Roof” at the Rooftop terrace in the Biosfera Shopping Center with live jazz and swing big band sounds and table service from 1pm until 3pm.

* DJ Jonny Concrete hosts thematic sessions at The Rock Inn in the Harbour from 3pm. Every Sunday will be different themes like: Ska and 2tone, summer vibes, etc.

* Mick Garry plays at the Heineken Bar in the Harbour from 3pm.

* Mad Mick performce at Mrs Murphy’s (on the Avenida de las Playas, past the Casino) from 6pm.

* “Sax on the Roof” at the Rooftop terrace in the Biosfera Shopping Center with live jazz and swing big band sounds and table service from 1pm until 3pm.

Monthly:

And then, we move on to monthly afternoon live music gigs:

“The Gathering”, a 10 piece band lead by Collie Farrell playing blues, soul, funk, and country rock at Mulligans in the Old Town. It’s the only gig that is not free of charge but for a cover of just €5, I can personally vouch that it’s money well spent. The gig starts at 4:30pm and it’s advised to be there in advance to make sure you can get a seat. It’s usually on the second Saturday of every month but it changes depending on the band’s availability, so keep an eye out on both the venue and the bands Facebook pages.

“Ska Duo” play at Ancla2 on the Avenida de las Playas (next to Antlántico Lounge) on the last Sunday of the month from 5pm to 7pm.
Being the sister band of the well-known “Skatoons”, they perform music by Madness, The Specials, Bad Manners and more.

If you happen to host an afternoon gig at your establishment, please do contact us and we will be happy to add them.

Attention! Please note that while this live music information was correct at the time of publishing this post (June 2019) the entertainment scene changes quickly sometimes and also, there is always the possibility of last minute unexpected changes. So to avoid disappointment, always check with the venue to make sure your favourite artist / band is playing on the day to intent to attend.
