Lanzarote Restaurant Review – Tandoori Spice, Costa Teguise

We ended up at Tandoori Spice by accident. Jules made a bid in a charity auction and won a voucher towards a meal there, so we took some friends along to try them out.

The restaurant is situated opposite The Coronas Playa Hotel in Avenida del Mar, in a line with a few bars and restaurants. There are tables inside and outside, and we opted to sit inside.

We all enjoyed some poppadoms with the usual chutneys and we went for a selection of starters including onion hajis, a prawn puree and pakoras. Everything was fresh and tasty, and washed down well with Cobra Indian beer.

As is the way here, for each main course we ordered, we were asked if we wanted it mild, medium or hot. I always find this a little odd, as in my mind a curry should be cooked with the level of spice the dish requires, so a Jalfrezi should be more spicy than a Rogan Josh. I suspect it might be connected with the fact that many Spanish customers aren’t used to spicy food.

For her main, Jules went for a house special – Prawn Malabre curry. The prawns were cooked to perfection and the sauce was condensed and delicious. I opted for a Chicken Pattia. The sauce was perfect – lemony, hot and thick, but the chicken was a little tough, and I wondered whether it was frozen rather than fresh.

Jules had a peshwari nan, which she described as “perfect” and I went for an aloo paratha, which was also excellent. Portion sizes are adequate, rather than huge, and the rice was light and fluffy.

The service at Tandoori Spice was typical “Curry restaurant” in style – attentive, quick, but perhaps lacking in friendliness and warmth.

Lanzarote has suffered for years with a lack of good curry restaurants (and some would say too many Chinese ones!) and we enjoyed Spice and will certainly be back.

They offer a take away service with free delivery in the Costa Teguise area. They are located at at Santa Rosa 15, Avenida del Mar, and their phone number is +34 928 346 909.

For Information, we don’t give reviews in return for free food or advertising and we never tell the restaurant we’re planning to review them. We simply rock up, eat our meal, pay the bill, and then write our review.
