Lanzarote Restaurant Review – Sergio Playa Blanca

Sergio is a relatively new restaurant, but has been earning rave Trip Advisor reviews, so we decided to try it out on a recent night out in Playa Blanca.

The cuisine is contemporary, and they focus on using fresh local ingredients. Sergio is located in the main pedestrian street in the resort, Calle Limones, but opens onto the ocean side with lovely views across to Fuerteventura from the restaurant and open terrace.

The menus are hand written in both English and Spanish, and have a section on the philosophy of the business, which is to use the very best local, fresh  ingredients and provide a limited number of options. I’ve always preferred restaurants that do a few things well, as opposed to offering everything under the sun, and it was a joy to see some really innovative use of local ingredients we know well.

I went for a triggerfish starter, which was served on a bed of avocado emulsion, and a red curry sauce with coconut foam. Super sophisticated, absolutely delicious and a perfect appetiser. Julie went for Lamb brochettes, served Balinese style with peanuts. The lamb came as small, crispy chunks, wrapped in paper thin parcels and the satay style sauce was perfect.

For mains, I had Crispy Goat, which was very slow cooked goat meat served in a crispy roll – almost like a spring roll – with a yoghurt sauce. It was amazing – tender and so full of flavour, it was almost gamey. Julie chose Sea Bream, served with a coconut and lemongrass sauce.

Julie also went for a dessert, which was an interesting deconstructed cheesecake with crunchy gofio balls and passion fruit coulis.

All of the food was genuinely exceptional – perfectly matched with different ingredients, well seasoned and with a real depth of flavours. And it’s so rare to read a menu where every single dish is begging to be tried as a totally new experience.

The service was very good – we were looked after throughout by Sheyla, who knew the menu well and looked after us beautifully.

Our total bill came to around €75, and we had a bottle of wine, water with the meal and coffee.

Sergio is in Calle Limones 91 to 93. I’d recommend booking as it’s quite small. You can do so via their Facebook page.

For Information, we don’t give reviews in return for free food or advertising and we never tell the restaurant we’re planning to review them. We simply rock up, eat our meal, pay the bill, and then write our review.
