We are blessed with an abundance of good restaurants in Lanzarote, we have a waiting list of those we’re still haven’t eaten at, and we can finally cross off Los Aljibes de Tahiche.
We’ve tried to eat here a few times before and it’s not worked out for one reason or another. Now we’ve been, we’ll be back, it’s a lovely location, great food and friendly staff.
We sat al fresco on the rear terrace of the restaurant on arrival, to enjoy a drink whilst we perused the menu. It was a lovely way to start the evening, as the sun was setting, we were called through to our table a few minutes before our first course arrived. The restaurant is proud of their Manrique history, and the garden is similar in feature to the cactus gardens in Guatiza.
Miguel ordered the cheese special to start, this wafer thin cheese had been soaked in beer and presented in ice cream cones. Luckily the waitress explained it was a large portion, so a friend shared the dish. I ordered one of my favourite combinations of aubergine and palm honey for my starter. The vegetable was cooked as crips, sprinkled with sea salt and oozing with palm honey, which was a great combination.
There’s a fabulous choice of meat cooked on the grill at Los Aljibes, I decided to have the daily special of suckling pig, and Miguel went with steak.
My cochino was lovely, I was served three large and tender pieces, each with a crispy crackling. The sirloin steak was a huge piece of meat, seared on the outside and pink in the middle.
As it was our first visit, it would have been rude not to try the desserts! Everyone other than Miguel went for the Los Aljibes Cup which is scoops of vanilla ice cream served with lashings of baileys, dulce de leche and nuts, Miguel ordered the brownie with vanilla ice cream.
Los Aljibes is also a handcrafted brewery as well as a restaurant, so you can try their local beer of an American Pale Ale or Helles Beer. There isn’t a wine list as such, just well stocked shelves in the corner by the entrance, we enjoyed a decent wine from Ribero del Duero with our meal.
As a guide starters and chefs specials are available from €4, salads from €8, grill and oven from €14 and kids meals €4.50.
Los Aljibes de Tahiche is situated on Calle Bravo Murillo, off the LZ-34 which is the main road out of Costa Teguise past the golf course towards Tahiche.
