If you like fresh fish, then you can’t go wrong by visiting one of the Cofradía de Pescadores restaurants around the island of Lanzarote. The Cofradía de Pescadores is the fishing association in the old harbours, so they can be found in Playa Blanca, Puerto del Carmen and Arrecife. We visited their fish restaurant in Playa Blanca.
There is a menu but we decided on the fresh fish of the day. The suggestion was to share a larger fish between 2 people and the waiter brought out a Sama and Cherne to help us decide. The fresh fish is not priced, when we asked for an idea of how much it would cost, the fish were weighed, the Sama was slightly bigger and cost €32 and the Cherne €28.
We decided on the Cherne, and freshly baked bread with a choice of green and red mojo sauces was delivered to the table whilst the fish was prepared. Our Cherne was presented at the table on a sharing platter, it had been cooked a la plancha and served with papas arrugadas and a salad. This is fresh simple Canarian food at it’s best, the fish is full of flavour, the salty new potatoes are delicious dressed with mojo and the salad provides the crunch.
Although the terrace has been covered, there was a light fresh breeze blowing through with views over the harbour and across the bay of Playa Blanca. We enjoyed a Tropical Limón with our fish, if you haven’t discovered this new drink by Compañía Cervecera de Canarias try it, it’s the local ready made shandy (2% alcohol) and perfect for a light drink. A hot sweet shot of cafe cortado condensada completed our meal, when the bill arrived there was no charge for the bread, our drinks were €1.50 and coffee €1.
If you’re looking to buy fresh fish in Playa Blanca, the fishmongers is situated next door where there was a fabulous choice from the catch of the day.
We’d highly recommend it as a great fish restaurant in Playa Blanca.
