Ikarus Gastro Art

Lanzarote Restaurant Review – Ikarus, Teguise

We’d enjoyed some excellent meals at Ikarus in the old capital of Lanzarote over the years, this establishment had become our restaurant to celebrate special occasions in Lanzarote. When we heard it was under new ownership and my birthday was approaching, we made the decision we should go and find out if it was still a place for us.

Currently the gastro bar is open during the day plus Thursday and Friday evenings, we booked a table for eight people on a Thursday night at the end of January.

The owner is Carlos Martínez, who some of you may already know from 4 Lunas at the Princesa Yaiza hotel in Playa Blanca. Ikarus Gastro have a menú and sugerencias offering a mixture of regular tapas dishes and daily specials.

We ordered drinks and  spent some time considering the menus. There was a great variety of dishes so we took advice from Kiko our waiter who recommended the “huevos estrellados con iberíco” which is ham and eggs in English served on a bed of French fries which you just have to try! I selected the ensalada de rúcula con rulo de cabra for a starter which was a delicious goats cheese served on a bed of rocket and drizzled with a honey vinaigrette.

For the main course, quite a number of our group chose the solomillo con foie, I didn’t try it but I’m told on good authority that the Hamburguesa Ikarus was even more spectacular than the sirloin steak. I was sold on the fish dish Bacalao en salsa mediterránea as my main course, the cod was cooked to perfection with a delicious tomato sauce including black olives and red pepper.

The piece de resistance was the surtido de postres which we were very kindly invited to try on the house, not because of my birthday but as a welcome gesture. Wow! I love a selection of desserts as I do suffer from pudding envy and we weren’t disappointed, the cake, parfait, mousse and cheesecake were all delicious.

Our verdict? We all loved it! Ikarus remains on our favourite list of places to visit but now we’ll visit more regularly and not save it for special occasions. It wasn’t just the food that we liked at Ikarus Gastro, the staff were really friendly and the bill at the end was the best surprise of all.

Ikarus Gastro Art is situated on Clavijo y Fajardo in the centre of La Villa de Teguise.
