We were lucky to find a free table at Bar Restaurante La Aulaga Casa Felix on a Friday night in Costa Teguise. Despite not having made a reservation, Gustavo managed to find us a table on the terrace, the place was buzzing with a very friendly atmosphere.

The Tapas Menu at Casa Felix is excellent, a tapa is €2.50, half ration €3.50 and full ration €5.50, there’s a fabulous choice of dishes and we ordered three tapas including puntillas (baby squids), pimientos padrón (small green peppers) and boquerones fritos (fried anchovies) which were served with the trio of mojo and alioli sauces.

We decided to order a paella, however we didn’t realise that this speciality needs to be ordered in advance. I went for my second choice of the cazuela pulpo, championes y gambas and Miguel ordered the langostinos a marinero.

My octopus was delicious, this is a great alternative to garlic prawns that everyone loves here. The cazuela had a mixture of octopus, mushrooms and prawns which are cooked in garlic and chilli oil and served still sizzling in the dish. Miguel’s king prawns were served with their heads and tails on but peeled in the middle, for easy dining, with a seafood sauce and medley of rice and vegetables.

I hadn’t eaten bienmesabe for ages, so when I heard that was on the dessert menu, I had to order it. This is a sweet sauce made from crushed almonds which is served over vanilla ice cream. We couldn’t picture what the apple dessert was from the explanation, so Miguel ordered the apple surprise, which turned out to be a baked apple, which was delicious and served with vanilla ice cream.

If you want traditional Canarian food and tapas in Costa Teguise, Casa Felix is top of the list, you can find this restaurant set back from Playa Bastian beach car park. Remember to book in advance for a table and paella! Their telephone number is 928 591 660.

Note: We never accept free food or advertising for our restaurant reviews and we don’t tell anyone we’re going in advance. We just rock up, eat a meal, pay for it and then write about it.
