Atlantico Lounge

Lanzarote Restaurant Review – Atlantico Lounge, Puerto del Carmen

The Atlantico Lounge had been on our “to do” list for some time after we’d heard some good reviews. We decided to call in for lunch on a gorgeous December afternoon.

The Atlantico lounge is located on The Strip, about 300 metres east of The Casino. The frontage is quite small and opens onto a bar area and fairly small inside restaurant, with great sea views, but the terraces are amazing! You drop down from the restaurant and there are four terraces and another bar. The higher two terraces are for those dining, and the lower two for enjoying a drink. The views, as you can imagine, are uninterrupted sea views across to Fuerteventura. You also have a feeling of isolation from the busy strip.

We arrived a little early – they start serving food at 1PM, but we were offered a table on the terrace to enjoy a drink while we perused the menu. It’s quite extensive, and there were some unusual and interesting dishes on offer. You could create a few tapas from the starters to share, or go the traditional route and have a starter, followed by a main course. There are also daily specials which the waiting staff explain to you in detail.

We were served freshly baked rolls, and they came with a paprika butter (delicious,) a truffle butter (not to my taste,) and olive oil.

We both chose our starters from the specials menu and I went for Steak Tartar, while Julie chose Hake ceviche. My steak was delicious, bursting with mustard flavour and served with small french toasts. The ceviche was beautifully presented on ice in a half bottle and consisted of chunky pieces of the freshest hake, smothered with lime juice.

For our mains, I chose Cod (Bacalao) cooked with herbs, lemon and garlic and served with wild asparagus. Again, it was a super fresh fish, and cooked to perfection. The asparagus was delicious and al dente.

Julie went for the Atlantico lounge sweet rice with garlic, shallots, pepperoni and cockles, served with a king prawn. She was a little disappointed – the risotto was nicely cooked, but the pepperoni and cockles seemed to be missing – perhaps they were very finely chopped, but the flavour didn’t make it through, and the langostino was a little overcooked.

We chose a bottle of El Grifo’s colección Malvasia white, and it went perfectly with the fish.

The ambience on the terrace at Atlantico Lounge was superb – you can clearly hear the ocean – the tables, chairs and crockery and cutlery are top quality and the waiting staff are excellent and always there when you need something.

The Atlantico Lounge is pricier than many places on The Strip – we paid €90, but we went “all out” and had the more expensive dishes, a bottle of good wine and soft drinks. A more typical guide price for lunch would be €60 for a couple.

We were impressed – the decor is lavish, the food delicious, the service good and the terraces are simply spectacular. We’re looking forward to trying it for an evening meal.

The Atlantico Lounge is open from 1230 every day and is located at Avenida de las Playas 36, Puerto del Carmen. You can book by calling 928 51 03 63.

Update 20th June 2020. Atlantico Lounge has been taken over by Sebastyan’s from Playa Blanca. We visited to update this article. The menu has changed a fair amount, and now includes some fabulous specials including fresh fish, and it has a more “greek” feel to it. We had Mezze for two, a kind of Greek selection of tapas, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The ambience, the layout and the views are just the same, and the service is as it was.

For Information, we don’t give reviews in return for free food or advertising and we never tell the restaurant we’re planning to review them. We simply rock up, eat our meal, pay the bill, and then write our review.
