Tragic Death At Famara
A 50 year old British man died on Famara beach last week while paddle boarding. Ofer Deshe was a senior manager for supermarket giant Tesco and was visiting the island on his own. He was described a fitness fanatic. He was pulled from the water in cardiac arrest and emergency services were unable to revive him.
Lanzarote Promoted To France, Italy And Belgium
The island’s tourism department has announced plans to increase marketing to French, Belgian Italian tourists in 2020, attending various travel fairs and exhibitions in the three countries.
Yellow Alert For Big Waves
The Spanish weather service had issued a yellow alert for waves up to 4 metres on Tuesday this week. The ocean should settle down by the the early hours of Wednesday. The cause is a deep Atlantic swell.
Police Remove Electric Scooters From Costa Teguise
Local police have removed 50 app scooters from the streets of Costa Teguise and put them into municipal storage. They say the scooter company are failing to comply with current regulations.
Work Underway On Improving Cruise Port Access
Work is underway to beautify the walkway from the cruise port in Arrecife into town and Charco San Ginés. Picon will be placed on areas which are currently bare earth and will be planted, and plant boxes will be installed at regular intervals. Arrecife received over 500,00o visitors from cruise ships in 2019.

Fuel Prices Down
Fuel prices in the islands fell in the islands by an average of 3.5% last week, reflecting the drop in crude oil prices as a result of the fall in demand from China, caused by the Corona Virus outbreak. The average price of 95 octane gasoline is 95 cents and diesel (Gasoil) 91 cents.
