November Hottest On Record

November was the hottest since records began in Lanzarote, recording above average temperatures for all bar the 6th and 7th of the month. The highest recored temperature in the month was 31.9 degrees and for 11 nights it did not drop below 20 degrees.

Aldi Playa Honda Opening 13th

The new Aldi store in Playa Honda will open on 13th December. It’s the German company’s second store on Lanzarote and twelfth on the islands.

Power Cut Affects Much of Island

Much of the island was plunged into darkness on Monday evening, after an incident at a substation in Macher at around 8PM. In many areas, power was restored within 15 to 20 minutes, but in others, notable in Puerto del Carmen, the cut lasted for over 2 hours.

Olympic Sailors Training In Lanzarote

Sailors from 75 countries will be training in Lanzarote this winter, in preparation for next’s years Olympic Games. A total of 700 athletes will base themselves at Marina Rubicon to benefit from the island’s perfect winter weather conditions for training.

Autonomous Food Store For Arrecife

Mahou San Miguel, one of Spain’s largest companies is planning an autonomous food store at Marina Lanzarote in Arrecife, through their sub brand, Grabzy. The Grabzy store will allow buyers to register through a mobile app, which will open the doors to the store. Buyers can then enter, simply pick and pack whatever they want to buy, and as they leave, their account will be charged through the app.

Rains Bring Flooding To Arrecife

Several streets were flooded in Arrecife after heavy rain last Friday. Many streets in the capital were flooded, as well as some buildings and many garages.

Lanzarote is the 5th most popular destination for British travellers, according to a survey from The Association of British Travel Agents. Lanzarote came in behind Tenerife, Antalya in Turkey, Costa Blanca and Mallorca.

Unemployment Continues To Drop

The number of unemployed people on the island dropped again in November, bringing the year to date drop to over 12.9% and a total of just over 8,000 people.

Canaries House Prices Increase Most In Spain

The price of houses in The Canaries has increased by 22.5% over the last 12 months, the autonomous community with the largest increase in values, ahead of The Balearic Islands with 17.3%.

Investment Properties For Costa Teguise

A Bilbao based company, Kategora, is planning to construct an 144 apartment complex on the frontline, close to Galeon Playa in Costa Teguise. The units at Kora Maresía will be sold as investment properties, with Kategora managing the whole process and aiming for a 6.5% return on investment for people buying the apartments.

Tourist Spending Increase

Tourists visiting the islands spent 12.8% more while in The Canaries than in the same period in 2022. They also stayed slightly longer on average at 7.9 days.

New Letting Law Expected To Be Drafted By End Of January

Following a period of citizen consultation, Jessica de León, Minister of Tourism for The Canarian Government, has stated that a new draft of a law regulating the private letting of properties will begin it’s process through the parliament at the end of January.
