Phobos Is Back!

Phobos, the iconic Manrique wind toy, is back in place on the roundabout in Tahiche. The 13 metre high sculpture has been undergoing extensive restoration work over the last few months, and was originally installed on the roundabout in 1994.

Rain Expected

The weather authority has forecast rain for the island on Thursday and Friday this week. Short, sharp showers are expected, starting at 12:00 on Thursday and running through until the same time on Friday. The cause is a winter Atlantic storm that will pass close to the islands.

New Car Sales Up 6%

Sales of new cars across the island are 6% up on the same period in 2022, with well over 5,000 new cars already on the roads. New car sales in Spain as a whole are more than 15% up on last year.

Good Economy Leads To Growth In Staff

There are now 17 companies in Lanzarote with 250 or more staff, up from 13 last year, as companies continue to recruit in the island’s buoyant economy. There are just over 5,000 registered companies on the island, with the bulk, 4209, being small businesses with 9 or fewer employees.

Largest Hotel In Lanzarote To Open 1st December

The four star Barceló Playa Blanca resort hotel will open its doors on 1st December. After an investment of €150 million, the hotel covers an area of 100,000 square metres and is front line to the ocean, with views to Fuertventura and Los Lobos. It has 720 rooms, of which 132 are in the Royal Level, adults only section. It has two buffet restaurants, two themed restaurants, a sports bar, a lobby bar and two pool bars.

More Than 50,000 Attend Saborea Lanzarote

The annual food festival in Teguise was attended by more than 50,000 people last weekend. 420,000 tickets were sold, which allowed people to enjoy drinks and food dishes.

Sunbeds Back For El Reducto Beach Next Year

Sunbeds and umbrellas will return to Arrecife’s main beach in spring 2024, according to an announcement by the municipality. Work has already started on the creation of a permanent beach soccer pitch in one corner.

Plans For Plaza In Playa Honda Given Green Light

An ambitious plan to reform Plaza Santa Elena in Playa Honda has been given the green light. Billed as a “Collective space” for citizens, it will include a library, meeting rooms and underground parking for 110 cars.
