Most Tourists Per Resident

Two Lanzarote municipalities have the highest numbers of tourists related to the local population in The Canaries. Yaiza and Tias had 48.4 tourists visitors per resident last year

Rockfall In Papagayo

There was a serious rockfall on one of the beaches at Papagayo on Monday. Emergency services were called and initially there were reports that some people had been buried. But after moving the rocks, it was found that wasn’t the case.

Meteor Shower This Weekend

A meteor shower will be visible from Lanzarote at the weekend. The Perseids event is one of the most important dates in the astronomical calendar of the Canary Islands and the northern hemisphere. Watchers can expect to see more than 100 meters per hour in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday morning.

Warm Nights

The night time temperature in most parts of Lanzarote did not drop below 20 degrees through the entire month of July.

Heatwave Expected This Week

The government weather service has issued high temperature warnings for the island this week, for Thursday until Sunday, with temperatures in the mid to high 30’s expected.

Lanzarote Top Island For Cyclists

Lanzarote cemented its place as the most popular island for cyclists to visit to practice their sport, with 176,000 coming here last year to do so, more than double the number visiting Tenerife or Gran Canaria. Cyclists visiting the island spend on average 13.3% more on accommodation, 20.4% more on complimentary services and stay on the island 1.3 days longer than the average visitor.

Water Supplies Re-Established

Mains water was once again available across the island by Sunday afternoon, after extensive cuts affecting most of Lanzarote, caused by a succession of failures in pipes and low levels in storage units.

24 Year Old Killed In Stabbing

A 24 year old Cuban man died on Saturday after an altercation took place at a property in Puerto del Carmen. Two Canarian citizens have been arrested, one of whom, a 30 year man, is alleged to have carried out the stabbing.

Couple And Baby Locked in

A couple and their baby were locked in at El Islote de la Fermina in Arrecife on Saturday evening, when staff left without ensuring there was nobody still there. The fire service was alerted and they cut the locks to let the family out.
