Prime Minister To Spend Summer Holiday In Lanzarote
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has again chosen Lanzarote for his summer family holiday. He will be staying at The King’s former home in Costa Teguise. The family arrives on 1st August.
Man Dies In Playa Blanca Stabbing
A man has died after being stabbed in the stomach early on Tuesday evening. By the time police and ambulances arrived on the scene, he had died. A 69 year old suspect has been arrested and charged with stabbing his 40 year old victim three times. It was related to an argument about the mobile phone, and the stabbing took place in Calle El Correillo, Playa Blanca.
Hotels Expecting More Than 80% Occupancy
Hotels are expecting occupancy to exceed 80% through July and August, and 76.5% in September. Almost half the island’s hotels are planning to increase their staffing levels over the next three months.
Airport Remodelling Being Planned
AENA, the airport authority has announced that César Manrique airport will have an investment of around €140 Million to improve and remodel both terminals, as well as carry out work airside on the apron and the cargo access areas.
Danish Visitors Stay The Longest
The average stay of Danish visitors to Lanzarote is 18 days. The average stay overall of tourists is 8.4 days, with German visitors averaging 10 days, those from Netherlands and Belgium averaging more than 9 days, and those from Ireland and Poland more than 8. All other nationalities average under 8 days.
PSOE Triumphant In Lanzarote
The socialist PSOE party won the general election here in Lanzarote with an increased share of the vote, meaning Manuel Fajardo will continue to be the island’s representative in the senate.
Vueling Most Punctual Low Cost Airline
Vueling is the most on-time low cost airline flying out of Lanzarote, based on figures from the first half of 2023. The airline achieved an average punctuality of 87.7%.
La Palma Fire Under Control
The Canary Islands fire service announced on Saturday that the wildfire that has been blazing in La Palma is now under control. The fire raged over 2,700 hectares and damaged 60 buildings, including 22 houses.
