National Tourism Massively Up

Tourist numbers from mainland Spain were an astonishing 30% higher in the second quarter, than in 2019, before the pandemic. It’s currently the fastest growing tourism market for the island.

Haría Named 5th Most Beautiful Town In Spain

National Geographic Magazine has named Haría, in the north of Lanzarote, as Spain’s 5th most beautiful town. The publication cited the spectacular route into the town from Teguise, the palms in the valley and the Corona Volcano as contributing to the beauty of the area.

Saborea Lanzarote Will Return To Teguise

The new team at The Cabildo, following the elections, has said the annual food festival known as Saborea Lanzarote, will in future take place in Teguise. Last year, the event had a change to its name and was run in Puerto del Carmen. We don’t have a planned date yet.

Lanzarote Promoted To South Korean Travel Agents….

A small group of travel agents from South Korea has been on the island this week, learning about the potential of Lanzarote as a holiday destination for their clients.

….And American Travel Advisors

A webinar was attended this week by 60 travel advisors from the Signature Travel Network in the United States. A full presentation titled “Lanzarote – A Union of Art and Nature in the Canary Islands,” was given to the advisors to explain the landscapes, culture and experiences available here.

4,000 Evacuated As Fire Rages On La Palma

The forest fires in La Palma have forced the evacuation of mourned 4,000 people from their homes. Nearly 5,000 hectares have burned so far, and although it’s progress has been slowed with assistance of 9 helicopters and 2 seaplanes dumping water, as well as several firebreaks, it’s still not completely under control. A crew of Lanzarote firefighters are preparing to travel there to help.

Hospital Roof Heliport Is Possible

A study into providing a heliport for Arrecife’s main hospital has concluded that the roof of the main building will suit the purpose, and will mean patients in need of urgent care will no long need to be transported by road between the airport and hospital.

Wine Harvest Underway

The wineries have begun the harvest of this year’s Malvasía grapes, with El Grifo, Reymar and Tao Viticultores leading the way. The expectation is that there will be around 2.5 Million kilos of grapes – less than hoped, but given the very dry and hot winter, perhaps better than expected.
