Lanzarote Has Longest Promenade In The World

Lanzarote’s promenade, which runs from Costa Teguise all the way to Puerto del Carmen has been measured at 26.63 KM, making it the world’s longest, and displacing the one at La Coruña, also in Spain.

Beach Library For Puerto del Carmen

A library has been added to the tourist office in Playa Grande, Puerto del Carmen. The town hall has provided 300 Spanish, English and German books which can be borrowed so that visitors can read them on the beach.

Cabildo Promises To Expedite Work On LZ 703

The Cabildo has promised to move quickly on agreeing a project to repair the LZ 703 road at Los Hervideros. The road has been closed since February 2021, when a sinkhole appeared on it.

May Tourism Figures 8.4% Up

Tourist visitors in may were well up on last year. A total of 234,260 visitors came to the island, up 8.4% on 2022. The largest growth came from Irish visitors with a 25% increase, followed by French with an 11.5% increase. Year to date, the island has had 1.2 Million visitors, 23.3% up on the same period in 2022.

Ironman Lanzarote 2024 – Still Waiting….

Ironman has released details of most European races for 2024, but Lanzarote is conspicuously absent from the list. Club La Santa’s Race Director Fabio Cabrera has said they are still negotiating with the franchise for a new two year deal, and he is hopeful there will be news soon. In previous years, the date of the following year’s event has been announced within hours of the finish of the race.

Hot Weather Due This Week

Temperatures are expected to climb this week, with some reports suggesting they may creep into the 40’s on parts of the island. We started the week with low 30’s.

Papagayo Campsite Opening

The campsite at Papagayo will open on July 10th and remain so until September 17th. Pitches will have access to water and electricity and the shower rooms and bathrooms will be opened. There are 64 tent lots and 220 for caravans and motorhomes. Plot prices vary from €6 to €11 per person, per day. Bookings can be made here.

EasyJet Had To Remove 19 Passengers From Lanzarote Flight

The captain of an EasyJet flight this week asked for volunteers to disembark the aircraft, which was due to take off for Liverpool. The aircraft, with a full fuel and passenger load would have been unable to take off in the conditions at the time, which were extremely hot and with very little wind. Enough volunteers were found, and the airline rewarded them with €500 each and an overnight stay on the island, as well as seats on the following day’s flight.

Record Population

The island’s population has reached 167,300, an all time high. The most populous municipality is Arrecife, with 68,000 and the least is Haria with 5,800. Teguise has 24,200, San Bartolomé and Tias 22,000, Yaiza 18,300 and Tinajo 6,900.
