Lanzarote Premium Launched In Ireland

The tourism department gave a presentation to travel agents and tour operators at an event in Dublin this week. Attendees included the CEO of SPEL, Héctor Fernández; the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Spain in Ireland, Eduardo Sánchez; the editor of Business Post Group, Enda O’Coineen, and the Minister of Tourism, Director OET Dublin, Ruben López.

Tourist Swims In The Pool At Jameos Del Agua

A foreign tourist surprised other visitors to Jameos del Agua this week, when she got into the pool at Jameos del Agua, ignoring the no swimming signs, and posed for photos being taken by a companion. She faces a possible fine of between €600 and €3,000 after she was denounced by staff.

New Flights From Scandinavia To Gran Canaria

Air Baltic has announced that they will be opening a base in Gran Canaria and using Airbus A220’s to offer 17 flights a week from Finland, Lithuania, Estonia, Norway, Denmark and Sweden. People heading to Lanzarote will be able to connect with local flights to this island.

Registration For Lanzarote To La Graciosa Swim Opens On Monday

Registration for the annual Travesía a nado el rio opens at 08.30 on Monday 19th June. There are 600 places available, and the event is expected to fill within a few hours. This year’s swim takes place on 4th November. You can register here: Travesia a nado.

Record Number Of Cars On Island

Lanzarote has 142,133 vehicles on the road now, a new record. Around 50,000 of them are registered in Arrecife, with almost 24,000 in San Bartolomé, home to several of the island’s rental companies.

Uber Arrives In Tenerife

The Uber app ride service is arriving in Tenerife this month, initially in four municipalities in the south of the island. The service will work with the existing taxi companies, as well as their own luxury Uber Black service, allowing clients to book their trips using the app. Uber is currently available in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Malaga, Bilbao, Granada and Mallorca, and the company hopes to expand to other Canary Islands.

Mobile Speed Radar In Use In Lanzarote

Police are using mobile radar detectors in Arrecife currently, in a bid to reduce speeds in the urban centre.

Inflation Down To 3.2%

Inflation in Spain fell to 3.2% in the month of May, down by 0.9% on the month of April.

Police Raid Shops In Puerto del Carmen

Guardia Civil agents raided three shops in Puerto del Carmen following an investigation into the sales of counterfeit goods. They found more than 4,000 items, including handbags, football kits and other clothing, as well as metal sheets with the logos of luxury brands, ready to be applied. Their report has been passed into the court.

Puerto del Carmen Beach Clean Up

A team of volunteers organised by the town hall of Tias, spent time last week cleaning up Playa Chica in the resort of Puerto del Carmen. Among other things, around 1,000 cigarette butts were collected.

Noche Blanca In Teguise Pushed To October

Teguise town hall has now said Noche Blanca (white night,) which was pencilled in for the end of June or beginning of July, will now take place in the autumn on a date to be announced.

Salinas Hotel Re-Opening on 30th June

The former Melia Salinas, which will in future be known as the Pasadisus Salinas Hotel, will re-open at the end of this month, following major refurbishment work, which has taken place over the last six months. The hotel will feature a new Thalasso spa centre, and several new restaurants.

Oncology Follow Ups In Lanzarote Going Forward

Arrecife hospital will be doing oncology follow ups for patients undergoing cancer treatment going forward. Until now, they have had to travel to Gran Canaria for this service.
