Tourist Has To Pay €20,000 For Taxi Driver Assault
An Irish tourist was ordered by an Arrecife court to pay €20,000 compensation to a taxi driver he assaulted. The man got into the taxi in Calle Princesa Teguise in Puerto del Carmen and told the driver he had no money for the fare. The driver asked him to get out of the vehicle, and he refused. The driver then opened the rear door and asked the man to get out, at which point he kicked him, and the driver fell backwards onto the pavement, suffering seven cracked ribs and a concussion. Police arrested the 28 year old man at the scene. The court ordered that the payment had to be made before the aggressor left the island to return home.
Ferry Link Possible Once Again With Morocco
The ferry link between the Canaries and Tarfaya in Morocco, could be restored for the first time since 2008, after refurbishment work was carried out on the port in Tarfaya, which can now accept roll on / roll off car ferries once again. A number of ferry companies are considering options.

Husband Guilty Of Romina Murder
A jury in Lanzarote has found Raúl Díaz Cachón guilty of the murder of his wife Romina Celeste and the prosecutor’s office has recommended a sentence of just over 15 years. The crime took place on new year’s eve 2018, and the accused admitted to disposing of her body, but until the case came to court, he maintained he did not kill her. On the opening day in court, he changed his plea to guilty on the murder charge. The couple, who lived in Costa Teguise, met in Madrid in 2017 and married in 2018. Díaz had a history of physical abuse towards Romina, which culminated in her death.
Busy August predicted
Lanzarote already has bookings for around a 85% occupancy in August, suggesting it’s going to be an extremely busy month for the island, with many more late bookings to come. The island is second only to Mallorca in Spain for predicted bookings in August.
Gold Medal For Lanzarote Brewer
Arrecife based brewery Nao Lanzarote won a gold and a bronze medal at the Barcelona Beer Challenge last week. A total of 1126 beers from 181 brewers in 17 countries took part. Nao won gold for their Nao Mucho, which is an IPA, and a bronze for their Nao Marinera, a blonde ale.
Incoming Storm Approaching Canaries
Monday: Storm Oscar is currently approaching the islands and is expected to bring heavy rain and very strong winds to the western isles, which have a yellow weather warning in place. As for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, there are no warnings, but we can expect 50 KMH winds and some rain on Tuesday and Wednesday, clearing by Thursday. The storm is already bringing an increase in air and sea temperatures, the latter of which are already 2 degrees higher than normal for the time of year.
Wednesday: As expected, the storm brought heavy rain and very strong winds to the western islands, resulting in flight diversions at Tenerife North, La Palma and La Gomera, as well as landslides and fallen trees. The orange alert remains in place for the western isles today, with more rain expected. The tail end of Oscar remains close to the islands, but will gradually move east and north today.
Two Injured By Reversing Bus At Teguise Market
Two people were injured when they were hit by bus that was reversing in Calle Calvijo in Teguise during the Sunday market. Currently there is no more information available, but we will update here when there is.
Pet Crematorium To Re-Open
The HELA pet crematorium in Arrecife is to re-open, after the sanction placed on it was removed by the city council.
Telamon Scrapping Halted Again
The work to scrap the Telamon shipwreck between Arrecife and Costa Teguise has stopped once again. The company that had the rights to the materials recovered has ended work due to “bureaucratic problems.” Work started in the spring of 2022, but the equipment and fencing have now been removed.
