7 Beaches Get Blue Flag Status
Seven beaches on the island have been award the coveted blue flag and a total of 64 have been awarded across The Canaries. Lanzarote’s beaches are El Reducto in Arrecife, Las Cucharas in Costa Teguise, Playa Blanca in Playa Blanca and Playas Grande, Matagorda and Los Pocillos in Puerto del Carmen.
More BA Flights From Heathrow
British Airways has announced additional flights each week week from Heathrow to Lanzarote. From June there will be five flights per week to the island.
Yellow Weather Warning
Lanzarote had a yellow weather warning for Saturday, for winds of up to 80kph and waves up to 4 metres.
Bars Can Stay Open Until Midnight
As of this Friday, the Covid restrictions for islands in Level 2, which includes Lanzarote, have been changed to allow bars and restaurants to stay open until midnight. It was previously 2300.
Covid Test Requirement For Travellers From Spain Extended
The requirement for all visitors travelling to The Canaries from mainland Spain has been extended until 31st July.
Lanzaroteños Win Rally
Rallying returned to Lanzarote, after 17 months without a race, at the Rally Villa de Teguise at the weekend. Thousands of spectators enjoyed the event, which was won by locals Toñín Suárez- and Gabriel Espino, driving a Porsche 911 GT3.
Good Wine Harvest Forecast
Wine growers are predicting a good harvest this year of somewhere between 1.5 million and 2 million kilos of grapes. Based on current conditions, the fruit looks very good and the wines produced are expected to he high quality.
New Menus For Tourist Centres
New menus have been launched this week at Jardin de Cactus, Monumento Campesino and Castillo San José this week. All feature local produce and include Canarian tuna, locally caught squid and Goat’s meat. Jardin de Cactus is also offering a breakfast and a brunch menu.
Success In Attracting Digital Nomads To The Canaries
The tourism department has announced that the campaign to attract digital nomads to the islands is bearing fruit. Up to 8,000 teleworker have set up on the islands over the last six months, enjoying our excellent weather, good wifi and low cost of living.
The end of the State of Alarm in Spain means the end to the night time curfew in Lanzarote. From this week, citizens will get back their freedom of movement at all times of night and day. Health officials pleaded that we all take responsibility for our safety and said that “this is not an invitation to have celebratory parties.”
Lanzarote Foil Challenge A Success
Fifteen participants entered a round the island race last weekend, using a windsurfers fitted with foils to lift them out of the water. Despite light winds on some sections, the craft were able to reach speeds of up to 40KMH. The race began in Playa Blanca at 0900, and to La Santa and La Graciosa, before coming back down the Puerto del Carmen coast and back to Marina Rubicon. Six of the fifteen finished the event, which was won by Sebastien Kördel in a time of 9.5 hour.
