Horrific Accident On LZ 1 – Two Lose Their Lives
A terrible accident took place on the LZ1 main road in the area of Mala on Sunday morning. A 21 year old man and a 40 year old woman both died at the scene of the head on crash between a car and a motorhome. The second passenger of the motorhome, a 26 year old woman, is in Arrecife hospital and making a recovery.
April 20th Protest Route In Arrecife
The protest “The Canaries have a limit,” will start at the music kiosk in Arrecife at 12:00 and continue along the front, apart from in the section of works, until it reaches The Cabildo.
Lanzarote Hosts Wine Competition
This year’s Agrocanarias Wine Competition, organised by the Canarian Institute of Agri-Food Quality (ICCA), will see 230 wines from 60 wineries across the islands being judged on their quality, in a blind tasting. The event takes place at Jameos del Agua.
Water Cuts Affect Much Of Island
The water supply was cut off to many parts of the island this week, with out of 7 municipalities affected. Cuts were reported in most of Haria and Tinajo, as well as parts of Teguise and Las Breñas in Yaiza. The north of the island was affected by a breakage of the main water pipe in the area of Zonzamas.
High Temps Until Wednesday
The hot spell will continue this week until Wednesday, reaching 30 or more degrees in most parts of the island. From Thursday, it will fall to a more normal, for the time of year, 26 degrees.
Man Rescued From Water Tank
A man taking photos of birds fell into a water tank last Friday, and was stuck for around 5 hours. A passer by called police who investigated and found him desperately tired from trying to stay afloat. They to pull him out and take him to hospital for treatment.
Another Record For Lanzarote Airport
A total of 791,297 passengers used the airport in March, a record for the month, and 14.2% up on the same month last year, and an astonishing 36% up on March 2014.
Fog Causes Flight Diversions
Fog is a very rare weather phenomenon in Lanzarote, but an intense bout of sea fog at dawn on Sunday lead to 12 flights being diverted to Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria. Visibility was as low as 200 metres at one point. The fog cleared by 10:00.
