Winds Cause Airport Disruption

Strong cross winds caused multiple delays to flights at the airport on Thursday, with some diversions to Fuerteventura and one UK bound flight not being able to take off.

Hotel Occupancy Over 90% In February

Lanzarote’s hotels recorded 90.1% occupancy during the month of February, and The Canary Islands accounted for an astonishing 46% of all overnight stays by foreigners in Spain during the month.

Life Preservers For Puerto del Carmen

33 self inflating life preservers are being placed on the beaches of Puerto del Carmen. The devices, designed here in The Canaries, are in canisters that weight 390 grammes, and when thrown into water, they inflate to create a bright orange survival “cape,” with attached carabiners, which can be used to two swimmers back to shore.

Jet 2 Starting Lanzarote Flights From Bournemouth

Jet 2 are setting up a new base at Bournemouth airport in Dorset for 2025. Two aircraft will be based there and they will be flying to Lanzarote from there on Mondays, starting 1st April 2025.

Plan To Ban Smoking on Bar & Restaurant Terraces

The Canarian government has proposed legislation which will bank smoking on the terraces of bars and restaurants, as well as at bus stops and in sports grounds.

Scottish Tourist Absconds

A Scottish tourist who was arrested on arrival for causing a disturbance on a fight from Glasgow proceeded to head butt a Guardia Civil officer, breaking his nose, and was then charged with assaulting a police officer. His case was set to be heard two days later, but in the meantime he left the island on a flight to London.

Buses Will Have Card Readers

From 1st April the Intercity bus service will have card readers on all buses, allowing passenger to tap to make payment of their fares.

Indian Ambassador Visits Lanzarote

The ambassador of the Republic of India in Spain, Dinesh K. Patnaik, visited Lanzarote this week and met with officials at The Cabildo. The island has a sizeable Hindu community.
