More Than 100 Cruise Ships Visits Expected Before April
More than 100 cruise ships will visit Arrecife in the period from January to April, bringing well over 100,000 tourists to the island. The most common visitor will be Marella Explorer, and the busiest month will be April, with 34 stopovers planned.
Population At 168,700
The population of Lanzarote increased by 4,700, to finish the year at 168,700. Arrecife remains the most populous, but some margin, with 68,500, and Haria the least, with just 5850 residents.

90 Aircraft Arrive At Airport
A new record was made last Saturday when 90 international flights arrived at the airport for the first time.
Doctors Call For Mandatory Mask Use In Health Centres
Doctors are asking for mask wearing to be made compulsory in health centres in order to reduce the transmission of respiratory infections during the winter.
1500 Runners In New Year’s Eve Run
Around 1500 ran in the annual San Silvestre run around Arrecife on New Year’s Eve. The route took the runners around Charco San Ginés, along Calle Real and finished in Parque Islas Canarias.
Thousands Enjoy Drone Show
Thousands of locals and tourists enjoyed the spectacular drone show in Arrecife on 30th December. During the half hour show the drones created dozens of multi coloured images relating to the island.
German Chancellor Spends Christmas In Lanzarote
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is on the island for the second Christmas running. He arrived on 21st December and will remain here, in Playa Blanca, until 29th December.
90% Occupancy In Hotels
Hotels across the island are reporting 90% occupancy over the new year period, as more and more tourists arrive to take advantage of the exceptional weather the island has enjoyed over Christmas.
Police Close Down Counterfeit Operation
Canary Islands Police raided three properties in the municipality of Yaiza and removed equipment used to make labels for counterfeit goods to be sold on the island, as well as a large haul of goods ready for sale. Six people are being investigated.
Free Buses For Residents To Continue
The 100% subsidy on bus fares for residents of The Canaries will be extended for 2024, after being given the green light by central government. The use of the bus services in Lanzarote has increased by 40% over the last year, reducing the number of vehicles on the roads.
New Embraer Jet For Binter Canarias
Another Embraer E195 has been delivered to Bitner Canarias as the latest edition to its fleet. The new aircraft, named La Gomera, will operate on the Canary Islands to Madrid route, from both Tenerife North and Las Palmas, with free connecting flights being offered from Lanzarote.
Change To Route For The Kings In Arrecife
Due to the roadworks in Arrecife, the route the Three Kings are taking on 5th January has been changed. They will now depart Agramar in Puerto Naos at 6PM, skirt Charco San GInés, and finish in Parque Islas Canarias.
