British School of Lanzarote India trip

A teacher from the school is accompanying a year seven student and her father to India this week.

This academic year they have linked with a school in Anantapur, India, which is supported by the Vicente Ferrer Foundation. Students in Year 5, 6 and 7 have been learning lots about India and have all made booklets about their lives in Lanzarote for the children in India to receive. Later in the year, the students in India will send them booklets, and drawings about their life. This week, the three are travelling to Anantapur to deliver these booklets to the school, as well as lots of stationery items the students have bought with money they raised. Whilst there, Mario (the student’s father) will be running an ultramarathon to support the foundation.
They have created a Twitter page which we will be using as a blog during the trip, and you can follow it here:

Christmas Voices

The  Voices’ 2017 Christmas performances attracted record attendances. More than 250 people came to the three venues and 1150 Euros was collected for Lanzarote charity Calor y Cafe.

Deirdre Macfarlane-Archer, founder and leader of the group for the past 15 years, said “A fantastic result and how satisfying. It has all been so worthwhile and so rewarding”.

Having such a successful season was a high point for Deirdre whose last year this was as leader of Christmas Voices. She has handed over the reins to Alan Taylor and Tim Macer. They have been visiting members of the choir for the last 3 years but have recently taken up permanent residence on the Island.

Deirdre will continue to be an active member of the group.

The choir exists solely to give their annual performances of Christmas Carols for which they begin rehearsals in November. If you will be on the Island from November through to Christmas and would like to sing with the group please get in touch with Deirdre at
