New Beaches Project Suspended

A project to create two new artificial beaches on rocky parts of the coastline at Costa Teguise and Playa Blanca has been suspended. The Cabildo has done so, because the permission needs to be reviewed in relation to the island’s general plan and also to consider who takes responsibility for their maintenance once they are created.

Aer Lingus Passengers Endure 40 hour Delay

An Aer Lingus flight which diverted to Fuerteventura because of bad weather was in the news this week. The crew ran out of hours and therefore could not bring the aircraft on to Lanzarote. The passengers were eventually brought to Lanzarote by ferry, but the outbound passengers at Lanzarote airport waiting to go home were left in the lurch. “Some” were given accommodation by the airline, but many had to stay at the airport due to a lack of rooms on the island. Aer Lingus eventually flew a replacement aircraft to collect them, but not until they had been delayed by 40 hours.

Ryanair Cancels Barcelona Flights

Ryanair is cancelling their daily flight to Barcelona with effect from 24th March. It’s not clear currently why they are doing so.

More Sand For Playa Chica

The Mayor of Tias, Pancho Hernandez met with Head of Costas for The Canaries, Rafael López Orive in Puerto del Carmen this week to show him the damage and loss of sand caused to Playa Chica by Storm Emma. The mayor proposed that sand should be taken from Los Pocillos, where there has been a build up due to the wind, and moved to Playa Chica.
