Update: The strikes have been called off after employers agreed to the removal of a clause in the worker’s contracts. There will be no strikes on 21st and 24 April 2019.
Two Spanish unions, UGT and USO have called for 24 hour Lanzarote Airport strikes on Easter Sunday, April 21st and Wednesday 24th April 2019.
These are both big traffic days at airports, as families return home after the Easter break.
The workers involved are those who provide handling services at the airports, so the filing of flight plans and the movement of luggage are the most likely to be affected.
It’s impossible to say at this stage what impact will be felt by travellers. This row over conditions has been bubbling away since 2015, and previously, even when Lanzarote Airport strikes have been called, the disruption here on the island has been minimal. There is also a chance that an agreement will be reached before the strike days.
We’ll update on this article as soon as we have any news or information, so bookmark it if you are travelling on the dates in question.
