I caught up with local entertainer Maxim Brown to find out some about him and his act.
Where are you from, Maxim?
I am from South Africa, originally.
How long have you lived in Lanzarote?
It’s been 13 years now.
What brought you here in the first place?
Doing Music Tribute Shows as a singer for Lanzarte Espectáculos.
What do you like about the island?
As I landed on the island at night time, the first thing that impressed me were all the beautiful white houses, but I also adore the desert climate, the ocean, the sun and the people from the the island “the conejeros” themselves. In addition, the island is very inspirational when it comes to song writing and creative music work.
What are your favourite things and places on the Island?
The beach, the gym and going out for a great local meal.
Going back to the business, who are your idols and inspirations musically?
Barry White, Lionel Richie, Lou Rawls, The Commodores… Basically the American “Motown” Sound.
I see. How would you describe your music to someone who’s never heard you before?
Simply enjoyable from the beginning to the end.
Do you have any special projects coming up?
There are always projects. I don’t ever stop working musically – it’s either I perform live, composing or recording in the studio. I have recorded several of my songs and get a lot of Airplay on various Radio Stations around the world. You can also listen to me locally on Monster Radio, Radio Europa to name a few.
My latest single released in March 2019 is called “Baby I Love You”. It has been well accepted by radio stations and it gets played a lot on online radio stations. My other single “If We Try Again” also is very popular. All my music is available on iTunes, Spotify and all other online stores.
When and where do you have regular gigs on the Island?
I have a contract with Lanzarte Espectáculos and perform regularly with my 3 piece group “The Legendary Soul Show”” at various hotels, like Hotel Costa Calero in Puerto Calero, Hotel Teguise Playa, The Four Seasons Bar in Costa Teguise and HD Bear Resort Hotel in Costa Teguise and the Rubicón Palace in Playa Blanca, every second week twice a month at these hotels; and restaurants and bars too. The show is produced by me.
