Once Halloween is out of the way all sorts of Christmas preparations seem to start inmediately afterwards. The annual Christmas Shoe Box Appeal is no less.

This year, in addition to helping local charity “Calor y Café” for the underprivileged and homeless, the boxes will also support the Social Association “Creciendo Yaiza”. This charity provides help and support to children and young adults with special needs and their families.

If you want to help, it’s very easy: simply fill a shoe box with several inexpensive individually wrapped toys, wrap the box and label it with the sex and age of the child the box is for.

The charts included are a guidelines of items to include in the boxes, both for boys and girls of ages ranging 2 to 4, 5 to 9 and 10 to 14 years old.

Please, do not include sweets as some children may have allergies. If the toy needs batteries they probably won’t be able to afford to buy replacements either, so better avoid them too.

As a suggestion, you can include a personal note from you to the child. Although it’s not mandatory, I think it adds a personal touch to the box.

A collection day at Deiland Shopping Centre in Playa Honda will be organised in December, details are pending to be confirmed.

In the meantime, if you would like to participate, please contact Jackie Lee  or Trish Purcell to get an age group assigned and arranged collection.

Thank you in advance from Jackie and Trish for supporting these two worthwhile charities.
